Next month, Microsoft updated Windows RT 8.1 to provide users with a handful of new features, such as improvements in the Start menu and screen lock on their devices. Some reports have claimed that the changes will make the tablet interface looks more like Windows 10, though it is still powered by Windows 8.1.
However, the update, like previous versions will not be compatible with the new Windows universal applications that Microsoft has encouraged developers to build for Windows 10, a spokesman said in an email. Windows RT devices will still be able to buy, download and run Windows Store applications that are compatible with previous operating systems, but the newest applications (along with those who descend support for Windows RT) will not be available.
It is not surprising, since these applications are built to the new version of Microsoft's mobile operating system, and Windows RT devices will not be updated to Windows 10. The writing was on the wall for a bit "when version Windows is designed for ARM tablets Microsoft executives said in January it would provide an update to Windows 10 for this type of devices.
Windows RT tablets has never done particularly well, either. Microsoft took a $ 900 million reduction in the original surface of RT, while its manufacturing partners Dell, Lenovo, Asus and Samsung have saved the entire operating system support. The issue highlights one of the longstanding problems with Windows RT: Why is not compatible with integrated x86 applications, the selection of programs available for devices like the Surface RT and 2 is much smaller than the application the global ecosystem of Windows.
Excluding Windows RT does not mean Microsoft is abandoning its tablet ambitions beyond. Last quarter, the business of Microsoft Surface only brought in $ 888 million, and the company has added new features of Windows 10 that are designed to enhance the experience of using the 2 in 1 device that combines the experience of using a computer laptop and a tablet.
